Taste for Life

Our little health food store, The Herb Place, has been very helpful in providing gluten free products, for being a small business. The owner takes suggestions well and even orders in products that you like– she is somewhat of a local expert on eating gluten free.

She has been passing along to me the magazine Taste for Life, which has all kinds of ads and articles about healthy living in it. More importantly, their website has recipes for all sorts of special diets, as well as sections on nutrition and healthy eating in general, recommended books, and so on. I am looking forward to trying some of their recipes for myself, like the Cranberry-Sweet Potato Bread recipe I just printed out!

Progress

After a month of slow candida cleansing (we took it half strength over a longer period of time, for the sake of her intestinal weakness) Esther’s scores on the self-evaluation are down by a good 30 points. Yay! Most of the symptoms have diminished or disappeared altogether, though a recent cold has clouded that front with symptoms that may or may not be related to the candida.

Esther decided herself that after a short break she would go on a 15 day full-strength cleansing, much to my surprise and admiration. She is becoming proactive with her condition and taking more responsibility for her own health, which is a valuable step of maturity. She is asking for more pans to cook with, and shopping at her little grocery store down the road, as well!

Today she is enjoying peanut butter and fruit and honey again, and delighting in the variety, even while she grieves the fact that it has been over a year since she has had many other foods. Being thankful for this day’s food (whatever it is) is a lesson I have learned alongside her…a lesson any American could stand to learn in the face of other nations’ poverty and hunger.
